unnamed clauvio fangame
A downloadable game for Windows
"project_SLEEP"
Version 0.3
Summary:
Greetings, sleepyheads!
On a personal note: Between holiday season, moving to a new town, getting fired, job hunting, and starting on a new job, I didn't had nearly as much time as I wanted to work on the game.
I've set a goal to release a new version every 30th of each month, so I'll stick to my plan and release it as it is. Hopefully™ in the next one I'll be able to implement a lot of great ideas and features I already have in mind.
On this update I've basically reworked all of the existing frameworks and systems, and came up with a lot of new ones, laying out the foundation for when we get to the point of actually designing the levels and powers.
As always, you're very welcome to bombard me with feedback and ideas! Don't hold anything back!
Also we need to come up with a name for the game, so if you have any good ideas let me know somewhere. I've thought of "Super Sleepy Quest", but we can gather all of the good entries and maybe™ make a poll with the help of miss Clauvio.
Changelog:
Alterations:
- = Changed viewport & camera sizes (384x216 -> 256x144)
- = Reworked movement update
- = Reworked collision detection
- = Overpolished debug mode (specifically done to aid "TheHornetGestalt" on their quest to unearth all of the spaghetti hidden in my code (if they want to, of course))
- = Updated background (heavy parallaxing coming soon™)
- = Updated cookie collision mask
- = Reworked sprite management
- = Reworked spotlight (spherical lighting is now internally referenced as "spotlight")
- = Reworked hat selection wheel
- = Updated cookie collection animation
- = Reworked camera object (smoother, but still got a long way to go)
Additions:
- + Floor tiles
- + Castle tileset (block, wall & floor)
- + Doors
- + Basic parallaxing
- + Hat locks & sprites (which you can't see because everything is unlocked, but they are there, trust!)
- + Render distance
- + Icon for the .exe
- + Screenshot button
- + Basic data saving (only used to store the number of screenshots and name them accordingly for now)
- + Door transitions
Removals:
- - Horizontal acceleration & friction (snappy movement apparently feels better, but i'll eventually™ come back to this once i figure out how to implement it properly)
Bugfixes:
- ! Sleepyhead no longer shakes uncontrollably (lil bro finally took his meds)
- ! Super sleepyhead no longer moonwalks (thankfully we'll never know what the fuck was causing this)
- ! Slow motion can no longer be enabled during death
- ! GUI layer is no longer being drawn at a 7.5x pixels upscale
Known bugs:
- Spotlight has a very subtle afterimage (not sure if it's my brain or if it's the code that's creating this effect)
- Doors not spawning sleepyhead on the right coordinates
- Camera not properly aligning with room borders when approaching them at high speeds (i.e. super mode or falling more than a screen's height)
- Camera misbehaving in very small rooms (this causes the hat selection wheel to do a little trolling from time to time, since it's attached to the camera position)
- Sleepyhead palette colors are not consistent throughout all sprites (yeah it's just 2 pixels but it bothers me)
- Cookie palette swapping to the wrong palette when switching between rooms (so i disabled the shine animation for now)
Controls:
- "A" & "D": Horizontal movement
- Space: Jump
- Tab: Hat selection wheel (every hat unlocked for debug reasons. also different hats don't do anything yet)
- Mouse: Select hat (just hover/angle the cursor on the wheel, no clicks involved)
- Control: Super sleepyhead toggle (enabled for debug reasons. use with moderation)
- "R": Restarts room (enabled for debug reasons)
- Escape: Exit game (will become the menu/pause button eventually™)
- F12: Take screenshot
- F1: Debug mode (stuff may break and/or crash if you don't know what you're doing while in debug mode)
- While debug mode is active:
- Mouse: Shows different data depending on the active mode when hovering over objects
- "1": Debug movement
- "2": Debug sprite
- "3": Debug camera
